When people ask me for good (x)html and css references, I often blank out and only come up with three names: Eric Meyers, Dan Cederholm, and Jeremy Keith. Yes, Jeremy Keith is more of a JavaScript and Ajax guy, but I always feel compelled to throw his name in the mix. I’ll sometimes spice it up by referring to Dan Cederholm as my personal web design hero or “the Michael Jordan of HTML”
Certainly these three gentlemen are some of the best in the industry, but this leaves out a whole slew of brilliant people. Luckily Will Smith over at evoart recently listed some of the top-notch folks in the industry in his post titled 20 web Design Blogs you should be reading.
There are always going to be people left off a list like this, but this is a great list. You really can’t go wrong reading any books, blogs, or articles by any or all of these folks. Learning any new coding or markup language gets a little easier when you can build up your filter – and identifying the “who’s who” in the industry really helps improve your crap detector.
I’m trying to learn some .NET (gag!) stuff at work and I’m finding it quite challenging to get good information because not only does the closed source stuff seem to have a significantly smaller blogging community compared to the open source community (especially PHP); but I just don’t know who the “top notch” people are, so I’m not certain how to weight the information I’m getting.
